The Witch (2015)

Set in 1630’s New England, the family’s patriarch proclaims, “We will conquer this wilderness. It will not consume us.” Unfortunately, there is something evil in the woods, watching and waiting. As the family becomes consumed not only by what lurks in the forest but by their own flawed natures, so does the viewer. By the end of the film, you will fall under its dark spell, willingly and with no restraint.

Rosemary’s Baby (1968)

Based on Ira Levin’s novel by the same name, Rosemary’s Baby is one of the scariest movies of all time. Its spot-on social commentary about the continued psychological manipulation of women is as relevant today as it was in the 1960s. It is a slow burn that when it picks up speed, you will not be able to turn away from the horrors that befall young mother, Rosemary. Oh, and you will never, ever look at chocolate mousse the same way again.

Hereditary (2018)

Hereditary has been called “elevated horror”, for its meticulous thematically rich storyline about a damaged family struggling to come together in a time of tragedy. When you find out there are dark forces actively working against them, you will be angry, perhaps sad, but also on the edge of your seat as their impending doom unfolds before you. There are scenes in this film that will leave a mark. Whatever you want to call this film, you need to watch it NOW. Not in a few hours, not in a few days, but RIGHT NOW!
